Virtual Private Server

What is the Benefit of running Deki Wiki on a Virtual Private Server?

If you want to host your own MindTouch Deki Wiki but don't want to pay the $100/month+ for a Dedicated Server, but you still want control and root access you may want to consider a VPS(Virtual Private Server).  A virtual private server enables you to have a dedicated server through the technology of virtualization.

Who is this for?

A user that is technically savvy enough to install from source but doesn't need a Dedicated Server, or is working with a smaller budget for implementation.  **Note** You cannot install the VMware Certified Deki Wiki image as it will not work

How Much does it cost?

Depending on the provider, a VPS can run between $7.95 up to as much as a dedicated server.  For requirments for running Deki Wiki see below.

Requirements

The easiest deployment would be to have a Debian OS as that is the native OS for Deki Wiki.  Any other Linux OS or Windows will work too, see install guides. A minimum of 256 MBytes should be used if you are planning on more than 5 people using the wiki. Need one Dedicated IP for the server, more if you intend to run other applications along with Deki Wiki.  For storage a recommended 5 GBytes will work starting off.  Intended use of Wiki will skew requirements.

Installing on VPS

First off find a good provider of VPS(see above).  Follow the install instructions for Deki Wiki

Once you have installed Deki Wiki you will be able to assign a domain to it and you have your own Deki Wiki.

If you need help installing Deki Wiki you may purchase a support plan and we will help you configure it.
