How do I...Integrate vBulletin?

These instructions for integration of vBulletin were taken from posts by SteveB from the forum.

This extension allows for shared user credentials, meaning that you can create your account on vBulletin and use it to log into MindTouch Deki with it. Also, vBulletin groups can be used to map vBulletin user rights to MindTouch Deki user rights. However, it does not do single sign on.

  1. Go to your control panel.
  2. Click on service management.
  3. Click on 'Local'
  4. Enter a description: vBulletin
  5. Enter the SID: sid://mindtouch.com/2007/12/vbulletin-authentication

Enter the following configuration settings:

  • db-server: (optional) server IP address or domain name where the vBulletin MySql server instance lives (default: localhost)
  • db-port: (optional) MySql port number (default: 3306)
  • db-catalog: catalog for vBulletin database
  • db-user: username that can read the vBulletin catalog
  • db-password: password for username
  • db-options: additional options for the MySql connection string (default: none)
  • db-tableprefix: the prefix used in tables, to support multiple installations on the same database (default: none) (i.e. "vb_")

You'll need to import groups and assign roles to them to finish up the configuration, but that's the same as for other authentication providers.

Once that's done, a new drop-down box appears when you try to login. Select it and enter your vBulletin username and password. And voilà you are logged in with your vBulletin credentials!
